Visual Art
Amy Sterly
Amy Sterly lives in Wales, but is originally from Chicago. She received a degree in Fine Art from Rockford College, Illinois in 1986. She moved to the UK in 1989, where she has exhibited widely throughout the United Kingdom, Europe, and the United States as a printmaker and sculptor. In 2006, Amy received an Arts Council Projects Grant to research printmakers in Wales and in 2009, a ‘Chance to Create’ Grant to set up Mobile Printing Workshops in Powys.
I use drypoint printmaking, which consists of scratching or drawing an image on card, inking the card and putting it through the press with prepared etching paper. Teaching these techiniques with a press that could be taken anywhere, opens up endless possibilities for workshops in schools, community halls, parks or festivals. In 2010 I have done a series of workshops with Ponthafren in Newtown and its various outreach centres, and with the Project Group in Oswestry. I have also taken the press to the after school club in Llanfair Caereinion to make Christmas cards with the children.
