Arts Extravaganza 2010

”the sessions are fun and engaging and provide a good community focal point”

Arts Extravaganza is a project aimed at adults with learning disabilities that has been running successfully for over 10 years. Adults from Cae Melyn, Leighton Day Base, Mencap, Rhoslyn and the local community took part this year. They attended 4 sessions over the summer taking part in music, and visual arts mediums. This year we themed the project around “the garden”, participants could express and create art works based upon this theme. In one visual arts workshop, with Caroline Lowe, they used natural materials to create garden murals and sculptures whilst in the other, with Brian Jones, they created collages using magazines and coloured paper to create beautiful abstract pictures that were themed on the colours and things found in the garden. In the music workshop, with Niall Evans, they used vegetables to make instruments which they used to accompany songs. Towards the end of the final day participants displayed and shared their work with each other.
