Arts Extravaganza 2009

Arts Extravaganza has been running for over 10 years now and is a project aimed at people with learning disabilities.

This years project brought together participants from Mencap Llanfyllin, Cae Melyn, Rhoslyn, Leighton Day Base and the local town to take part in workshops held over 4 weeks in Llanfyllin during July and August. The theme for this year was ‘Disco’ and the artistic mediums on offer were music, where participants enjoyed singing disco songs and playing percussive instruments with Iris Gordijn. Dance with Helen Young and Sharon Calder, where pom poms were used to create a sequence of different moves to some classic Disco songs. Visual Arts with Ingrid Maugham which resulted in cane and colour tissue hoops which are on display in the Youth & Community Centre.

The final afternoon saw a sharing of all the work created throughout the four weeks, followed by an informal disco.
